If you’ve been around here for long, there are 2 things you probably already know about me:
- We started homeschooling because I wanted to equip my kids with the life skills they’d need to be successful.
- I’m a self-proclaimed “lazy homeschooler.” That saying “Work smarter, not harder” was made for me. I use technology to make my life easier, whether it’s educational shows on Netflix or using my phone to binge our favorite educational podcasts. I let technology work for me, instead of fighting it and pretending that’s not the direction our world is headed.
So when I come across an online course that checks both of those boxes for me, you can bet that I stand at attention. I’m constantly looking for courses that will do the teaching for me and that’s just what Homeschool Code Academy does for me!
Let me stop for a second and tell you why I think it’s super important for kids to learn coding.
Besides teaching problem-solving and logic skills, when kids learn to code, they also get a boost in creativity. Math comes to life before their eyes and they gain an in-demand skill, while having fun!
No longer are my kids begging to watch reruns of silly Disney shows. Instead, they’re eager to log in to Homeschool Code Academy and see what challenges they can conquer with their skills today!
From making their computer speak to drawing colorful 2D graphics, Homeschool Code Academy teaches kids awesome new skills using short, easy-to-follow videos.
Why Homeschool Code Academy
There are a few reasons Homeschool Code Academy stood out to me among other programs:
Independent work:
I don’t need to sit there and help my kiddos learn coding when they use Homeschool Code Academy. I have a to-do list a mile long, so anytime my kiddo can learn a new skill without my help, I consider that a win/win!
Turns technology time educational:
Kids spend so much time in front of a screen that I struggle with adding more screen time to their day. But Homeschool Code Academy is teaching them an in-demand skill that they actually enjoy learning. Screen or not, I don’t see how that can be a bad thing!
Fun for kids:
When kids enjoy learning something, it is a whole new ball game. Adding coding to our homeschool is an easy way to ensure they’re having fun, without even realizing they’re learning.
Kids follow along with the teacher and then are given challenges. If they get stuck, there are video solutions for each challenge. These challenges make each lesson more like a game.
It’s a simple way to ensure we are raising creators instead of just consumers.
Python programming:
Back in the early 2000’s, my public school computer class taught me how to use Wordpad. It’s safe to say many of those skills aren’t even relevant today.
But when students learn Python, they’re learning a real-world application that huge companies, like Microsoft and Facebook, use!
Python for Beginners is a great way to ensure your child has a strong foundation in coding, no matter what the future holds for them.
Taught by a veteran homeschooler/homeschool dad:
What’s better than a homeschool course that’s taught by a homeschool dad? A course that’s taught by a former homeschooler AND current homeschool dad! Homeschooling gives you a unique perspective of what courses actually need and don’t need. There’s nothing homeschoolers hate more than buying a curriculum that’s full of “fluff.”
Homeschool Code Academy creator, Matt Bohn, is not just a former homeschooler and homeschool dad but also an expert software engineer. He has over 20 years of coding experience and has worked on projects for huge companies, including Microsoft!
Coding is the future:
Let’s be real: technology isn’t going away anytime soon. In fact, it’s growing more and more rapidly every single day! Office jobs are going to online positions and every company in the world needs a website!
For just a couple of bucks a week, you can teach your kids one of the most in-demand skills of the future.
It’s not just another homeschool course: it’s a way of helping your kids get a head start on their career, while having fun!
