One of the hardest things about homeschooling is making sure we check the “extras” off our list. Art, music and PE tend to get pushed to the side because we’re busy focusing on the core subjects. But some days, I NEED ideas to help my kiddos burn some energy, when I can’t just send them outside. Needless to say, I’m always looking for workout ideas for kids to do indoors that doesn’t require an entire gym.

We’ve tried a lot of different workouts over the years but I like to have a bunch of fun moves ready for when my kiddos get the wiggles. And we all know that exercising is more fun when you make it a game! Our “Spell Your Name” Workout has been a game changer when it comes to squeezing in some movement.

These easy workout ideas for kids to do indoors has made exercising so much fun! The free printable is EXACTLY what we needed for homeschool PE class!

Easy Workout Ideas for Kids to do Indoors

Jumping Jacks

This classic move is a great way to work on coordination!

Push Ups

Allow kiddos to do modified push ups until they are strong enough to do the “real deal.”

Cartwheels

Who says exercising can’t be fun? Add a few simply gymnastic moves to your workout for kids!

Run in Place

Running in place is the perfect indoor exercise to get your heart rate up.

Dance

Turn on some tunes and be-bop around your house!

Sit Ups

Hold each other’s feet to make this move more doable for young kids.

Jump Up & Down

It’s amazing how out-of-breath you can get by just jumping up and down several times!

Butt Kicks

Much like running in place, this move really gets your heart beating quickly.

Touch Your Toes

Bend down and see how close you can get to touching your toes! For more of a challenge, try touching the floor without bending your knees!

Arm Circles

Arm circles are a great way to work those arms!

Sit Down & Stand Up

Who knew sitting down and standing up was such a workout? It uses a lot of different muscles and will leave you out of breath!

Plank

Try holding your body’s weight on your arms, while keeping your body as stiff as possible. This works your entire core and will leave kiddos stronger than ever.

Crunches

Crunches are the perfect way to work out your abdominal muscles!

Wall Sits

All you need is a wall and some stamina to master wall sits! Just lean up against a wall and “sit,” as if there was a chair under you!

Squats

Squats are a classic move that work your leg and core muscles.

Leg Kicks

Do them as fast or slow as you’d like but leg kicks will get your heartrate up in no time!

Spin Around in Circles

Spinning in circles is so much fun that kids won’t even notice they’re working out!
