The Good and The Beautiful Curriculum

Raise your hand if you’ve ever felt like throwing in the “homeschool” towel. If you’ve ever wanted to just hop in your car and drive your kids to the nearest public school, open the door and kick them to the curb.

Or if you’ve locked yourself in the bathroom, pulling your hair out while trying to figure out how you’re going to make this whole “homeschooling” thing work out.

We’ve all been there. Homeschooling is stressful. Like, really really stressful.

For starters, you’re with your kids all the time.  You’re trying to manage a household, serve a healthy dinner, tackle debt and still keep a smile on your face. It’s not impossible, but by golly, it sure is a hard act to juggle.

More than likely, you’re homeschooling your kids because you love them more than anything in the world. You want to be with them, enjoy the little moments and learn beside them. But with all your other responsibilities, homeschooling can feel like the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

The good news is that homeschooling doesn’t have to be that difficult. We don’t need to spend hours a day, slaving away to a curriculum that doesn’t bring us joy. We don’t have to feel defeated, stressed or overwhelmed. Instead, we can take  few days off, search for a new curriculum and potentially find a curriculum that actually brings light to our homeschool and our lives.

Sound too good to be true? It’s not. When I stumbled upon The Good and The Beautiful, I felt like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders.

The Good and The Beautiful curriculum is just that! Plus, it's simple, refreshing and easy to use.

{As a blogger, I’m often asked to review curriculum for companies. I usually love about each curriculum, but rarely do I find something that just clicks. When I saw The Good and The Beautiful, I knew I had to try it. It looked so promising that I actually reached out to the company and asked if they’d be interested in working with me! That alone shows how much I really love this curriculum!}

The Good and The Beautiful takes a relaxed approach to homeschooling but still manages to cover all the bases. While the core of their curriculum is the language arts, they also offer history, typing, handwriting, science and notebooking. They are currently working on releasing a math program, which we are thrilled about!

5 Reasons We Love The Good and The Beautiful Curriculum

Simplicity:

The Good and The Beautiful has reduced the amount of stress that both parents and kids feel while doing schoolwork. By weaving subjects together, the curriculum has simplified our homeschool day.  Instead of doing ten different subjects, we simply pull out The Good and The Beautiful.

The Language Arts program covers several areas, including:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Literature
  • Spelling
  • Grammar & Punctuation
  • Vocabulary
  • Literature
  • Geography
  • Art

Each subject is naturally woven in to the curriculum to make it simple and effective. Without feeling overwhelmed, you can conquer several of the most important subjects each day, in about the time that it sometimes takes to just finish other writing programs!

{We currently pair The Good and The Beautiful with Teaching Textbooks but we are anxiously awaiting the release of their math programs!}

Affordable:

Sometimes buying an expensive curriculum that has all the bells and whistles backfires. Not only do kids get overwhelmed easily, but parents can get burned out easily. Even though they’re often stressed, parents try their hardest to make the curriculum work because they’ve already spent the money on it and don’t want to throw it all down the drain.
With The Good and The Beautiful, you don’t have to worry about that! Levels 1-5 of the language arts curriculum is actually available for FREE on the website. All you have to do is download and print it out. But for under $100, you’ll likely want to save yourself the work and just order the printed version. (Trust me, the quality of the printed materials is unmatched!)

With 3 kids being homeschooled, we try to keep costs down wherever possible. Finally we found a curriculum that is affordable but doesn’t sacrifice our kids’ education. Not to mention, The Good and The Beautiful has an amazing resell price tag. Unlike other curriculum, it holds it’s value, so I’m able to resell it when I’m done with it.

Good and Beautiful:

One of my favorite parts of The Good and The Beautiful is that it isn’t filled with junk. Instead of dictating pointless sentences, students will dictate sentences that are filled with beauty. No longer will kids work with sentences like “The dog is brown.” Instead, they will be filling their minds with good thoughts, like “Put your dishes in the sink.”
Everything from the sentence dictations to the literature are full of kindness, manners, respect and beauty.  The Good and The Beautiful gently shows kids a natural and God-filled way of living.

Open & Go:

If you’ve been around here long, you know that one of my top requirements when choosing a curriculum is the ease of use. I am not one of those moms who wants to sit down and plan out each week’s lessons on Mondays. I’m the type of mom who rolls out of bed at 9:30 on Monday morning, throws my hair in a messy bun and stumbles to the table to get started on some school work. I need a curriculum that requires as little as possible from me. The Good and The Beautiful does an amazing job of making my job easier, while keeping the content interesting, educational and as simple as possible.

Independent & Hands-On:

One thing I didn’t like about Easy Peasy All-In-One Homeschool was that my kids were spending too much time on the computer. After all, if I’m going to be homeschooling them so I can spend more time with them, it doesn’t make much sense for them to be staring at a computer all day. But with The Good and The Beautiful, they  can do most of their work by themselves, if they need to. However, there is still plenty of opportunity for me to jump in and enjoy some quality time with them. From the literature to spelling, I can be as involved as I’d like, while still having the option of letting them work independently. It’s the perfect mash up for our busy family.
