Teaching Study Skills for Teens

Do you ever wake up in the  middle of the night, sweat running down your face, goosebumps covering your arms and your mind racing a hundred miles a minute? That’s exactly what happened to me when I started to imagine my kiddos sitting in a university setting, trying to take notes, as their professor taught. Yep, I have had nightmares about study skills for teens!

Study Skills for Teens

One of the scariest things about homeschooling (for me!) is that constant voice in the back of my mind that says I’m going to fail my children. Maybe they won’t know how to make friends. Perhaps they won’t know how to wake up early enough to make it to their first job. Who knows, maybe they won’t ever have the skills they need to even get a job.

Wondering if I’m doing enough has kept me awake more nights than I care to admit.

There are some things that I can’t help and I just cross my fingers and pray that my kiddos will pick up these skills on their own. For instance, I can’t really help it if my kiddo is a total weirdo and doesn’t want friends their own age. That’s just who they are. But…there are SOME things that I worry about that I CAN help! Like, teaching my kiddos how to study successfully.

This post is sponsored by Mr. D Math. I was compensated for my time and a positive review was not required.
As always, I only recommend curriculum our own family has used and enjoyed!

These study skills for teens have been just what my high schooler needed! Hallelujah!

That may sound crazy but studying really is a skill that students must learn. The problem is, most homeschool students don’t sit through lectures, so they have never had the opportunity to take notes or build study skills.

Mr. D Math’s Solution

Mr. D Math is one of the leaders in online math classes for homeschoolers but did you know Mr. D also offers a class to build study skills for teens? That’s right! I no longer need to worry about whether I’m doing enough. I can turn my kids’ future over to Mr. D and trust that he will teach them how to effectively learn to study.

And, he makes is super easy on me, as a homeschool mom!

How It Works:

Easy Tips & Tricks To Use:

Students will learn key tips to note-taking, such as using a highlighter key, learning how to stay alert in a boring class and how to get the most out of your class time. Learning how to take notes is important but learning what to listen for, identify important material and knowing how to quickly process what’s being said is equally important. Mr. D’s Study Skills class will help your teen become a better student.

Learn to Take Notes from Different Sources:

Students will learn the best ways to take notes from different sources, as well as learn how to process them.

  • Textbooks
  • Lectures
  • Fiction Works

It’s Easy for Mom:

Reviewing your child’s work will only take a few minutes each week. Truth be told, I don’t have a ton of extra time each day to review my kiddo’s work, so I love that I can grab a few work samples and review my child’s work in just a few minutes. Because they do oral evaluation, I’m able to see exactly where my kiddo is struggling and what we need to work on that week. No need to make intricate systems or fancy-schmancy lesson plans.

Learn to Test Like a Pro:

From creating your own study guide, to learning tips and tricks to help you ace your test, Study Skills for Teens will make sure you are equipped with the tools you need to do your best. Some kiddos tend to get nervous during tests, but once they learn to implement these ideas, they will feel more comfortable and will relax a bit during the test-taking.
