Simple Valentine’s Mantle

Who doesn’t love Valentine’s Day? It’s full of love, flowers and of course, chocolates. But keeping your home decorated for each season can often feel like quite a chore. With the changing of holidays and weather, you might be changing your decor 10 or more times each year. That’s why I prefer to keep my decorating simple.

Decorating for holidays doesn’t mean you have to completely redecorate your entire house. A few staple pieces that can be interchanged with each season are perfect! You can rotate them in and out of your room decor, without having a huge stash of decor. I love to swap our my mantle decorations. It only takes a little bit of effort but gives the whole room a new fresh feel.

This year for my simple Valentine’s mantle, I splurged on a few new decorations from Oriental Trading. I added a few staple pieces to my collection as well as some “love day” decor.

I started decorating my simple Valentine’s mantle by adding some height. With our vaulted ceilings, it’s easy to leave a huge gap between your decorations and the top of the wall. I’ve placed this adorable mantle shelf about three feet below the peak of our walls.  I have plenty of space to decorate the shelf and there are no huge blank spaces.

While I’m not a professional decorator, I do enjoy turning my house into a home while spending as little money as possible. Once I find a look I love, I tend to stick with it until I simply can’t look at it any longer. Most of my tips and advice is simply things I’ve learned from trial and error and my own personal preference.

My husband made me this distressed mantle shelf a few years ago. Isn’t it AMAZING?!?

Galvanized Lantern Candle Holder Set

Rose Gold Candle Holder Set

Silver Walnut LetterBoard Kit

Oval Galvanized Bucket

X & O Decorative Letters

Red Rose Hearth Wreath

By choosing to add items like the set of lanterns to my stash, I can reuse them time and time again. I can even break up the pair and use them seperately!

While I love decorating for holidays, I don’t let it consume me. I’ve picked a few of my favorite seasons and events to decorate my home for and I stick with only decorating for those specific holidays. While I used to run myself ragged trying to change out my decor for each holiday, I’ve simplified to decorating for only about half of them.

Here’s a list of the holidays that you could decorate for:

Valentine’s Day
St. Patrick’s Day
Earth Day
Spring
Easter
4th of July
Back to School
Fall
Halloween
Thanksgiving
Christmas
Winter

Personally, I tend to stick to the seasons and larger holidays. For instance, instead of using tons of Santa decorations, I opt for a winter theme. With most of my decorations being gold and white, the theme carries me from December until March, if I choose. By doing so, I can focus on making my home feel welcoming by spending time loving my family and friends, instead of decorating every month.

What is your favorite holiday to decorate for?
