I’ll be the first to admit that math just isn’t my “thing.” Up until about middle school, it wasn’t so bad, but after that, I just kind of glazed over and didn’t even try to learn what was being taught. You see, the issue wasn’t so much the information that I was being taught, but instead the way it was being delivered.
One bad teacher, way back in 7th grade, was all it took to throw my entire math career overboard. She jumped from topic to topic, confusing the majority of the class and leaving us scrambling to keep up. After all, it’s hard to learn a subject when the foundation has been crumbled. After that, I struggled to even try in my math classes because I’d basically missed an entire year of math foundations.
While I still am not the greatest at math, I know my stuff well enough to teach my kids. However, it’s the one subject I really struggle to teach in a way that they can fully understand it. And I wasn’t about to let the same thing that happened to me happen to my daughter!

I was thrilled when I discovered Mr. D Math because it was a different approach to high school math. It fit perfectly into our schedule.
Benefits of Mr. D Math
A Friendly Face:
Mr. D is one great guy! Full of personality and wisdom, he strives to get to know the students and help them learn in a way that makes sense to them. He’s friendly, personable and kind to the kids. They quickly respect him for that. Students will connect with him as he teaches in a way that no one else does.
I chuckled when I heard Mr. D say things like “Let’s work on this word problem. WHOA! Did you guys just see Hailey do a backflip? She loves word problems.” Because let’s be honest, kids don’t love word problems. 😉
The kids connect with Mr. D because he’s more of a friend than a strict teacher. A live teacher will not do much if the student despises him and the way they present the information. Mr D. changes the way you learn and explains things thoroughly, making it easy to comprehend. Not to mention how cool it is to have a teacher who lives in Spain!
All classes are online so you can access them from anywhere that you have Internet connections. Other math programs require you to use CDs, which we always seem to forget to grab when we’re headed out of town. Whether you’re in a hotel room or at Grandma’s house, there’s now no reason not to get your math work done! In fact, I sat through a class while waiting for my son to finish his speech therapy.
Your teens can work at their own pace, taking in the information as they learn it. Sometimes, it requires a bit more time for a lesson to sink in and that’s FINE! I’ve found that when my kids are allowed to really absorb the information, it not only helps them retain the information better but it also builds their confidence.
A lot of kids prefer videos to textbooks and it’s no wonder why. With videos, it’s easy to replay the complicated parts and really learn the material. Need to review? No problem, just watch the video again!
Quizzes are a great way to ensure that your kiddos are on the right track. One of my favorite benefits to Mr. D Math is that it allows multiple attempts to pass the quiz. This ensures that the student really knows the information and isn’t simply moving forward without grasping the concepts.
There’s no question about whether you child is behind or not in math. Semester tests ensure that they’re improving and building a strong foundation.
Extra Help & Live Classes:
Need extra help? No problem. Mr. D Math bends over backwards to ensure that students understand each and every concept that is taught. You can ask questions and sit through live classes. This lets kids build their confidence in math while digging deeper into the topic. Live classes are offered weekly, allowing the kids to form a relationship with one of the best high school math teachers I’ve ever seen.
I was slightly worried about the live classes, as my kids have the attention span of a chimpanzee. Mr. D did an amazing job of making it fun, conversing with the kids in a genuine way. In fact, the kids even talk to him, telling them about their favorite music, weekend plans and asking questions about Spain. I was floored to find that the teens were willing to talk to Mr. D as though they were speaking with a friend. The live classes convinced me that math doesn’t have to be dull and boring. (Does this mean I’ve been converted into a math geek?) 😉
Mr. D can help improve your test scores easily. Not only will you see an increase once students fully understand the principles of math, but he teaches them good study habits, helping to raise scores even more.
Mr. D Math Dashboard:
One great thing about Mr. D Math is the simplicity of the dashboard. With so much information, lessons and classes, it could easily become overwhelming. But it really isn’t. Instead, your dashboard is neatly organized. You can find your announcements, to-do lists and live classes with ease. There’s no need to click around to find what you’re looking for. It’s already organized and ready for you to begin.
