Movie Studies for Kids

Have you ever watched a movie and thought “Hmmm. I wish there was more. I wish there was a way we could take what we just learned and expand on it.” I do this all too often but then I hop up from the couch and head to the kitchen to start dinner.
The truth is, I am a busy mom. I homeschool all day, while juggling everyday duties, like housework, spending time with the kids and volunteering. While I would love to expand our learning, sometimes I just don’t have the energy.

That’s why I was so darn stoked to find Learning in Color’s Movie Studies. They are based on some of our very favorite G-rated movies and are more in-depth than anything I would’ve came up with.

How to Use Movie Studies for Kids

When I needed to finish painting the kids’ bathroom, I just couldn’t find the time. Every time I started to paint, the kids needed me. More cereal for Miss Manners. The batteries were dead in Bear’s favorite toy. Miss Bookworm was stuck on an algebra problem. I just couldn’t catch a break. So, I called off school for the day, knowing I would never be able to complete the bathroom if I didn’t find something entertaining for the kids to do.

So I grabbed a DVD that we hadn’t watched in awhile, Finding Nemo, and popped it in. FINALLY! Some peace. I got to work, listening to the movie from the bathroom as I painted. I love the movie and have seen it a handful of times, but this time, I wanted more! So, to the handy-dandy Internet, I went.  That’s when I found a Learning In Color’s movie studies for kids that changed the direction of our day.

Within minutes, I was armed with 19 pages of fun-filled activities and worksheets. From facts about Australia, sea turtles and fish to cause and effect, themes and personal applications, it covers it all! The worksheets are simple and help to ensure that the kids are retaining the information they view.

Best of all, there’s something for everyone! There were plenty of worksheets to choose from! There was something for my 5 year old, as well as my 14 year old! It was exactly what I needed to check off “science” from our lesson plans for the day!
