CTCMath: An easy-to-use K-12 math curriculum
Math. The dreaded 4-letter word that all homeschool moms despise. It doesn’t matter how good you are with numbers, the fact of the matter is, math takes a LONG time to teach when you have multiple levels of students.
Spending an hour a day on math for 3 kids, (one high schooler, one middle schooler and one elementary schooler) isn’t exactly an easy task. In fact, it drains all of my energy.
Teaching math can leave you feeling like you’ve gotten nothing accomplished during the day. You move from one kiddo to the next, as quickly as possible but then they still need help.
Interruption after interruption leaves you frustrated and your student unable to focus. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just pass the math-teaching along to someone else. You know, make it someone else’s problem.
That’s why I was so stoked when I discovered that not only does CTCMath offer curriculum for ALL of my kiddos, but they also do so at one low price!
This post is sponsored by CTCMath. I was compensated for my time but a positive review was not required.
My children use CTCMath and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed it for several years.
One program for the whole family:
CTCMath offers complete curriculum for grades K-12. When I signed up my oldest, I hadn’t planned on using the program with my other kids, but eventually, they struggled with other programs and we’ve slowly migrated all of our kids to CTCMath. It seems to be the answer to our math problems, no matter the age!
I love that CTCMath offers all grades, so you don’t have to worry about switching it up multiple times throughout their schooling. We did this with my oldest. She was in public school, then it took us a few years to land on a program that worked for her. Now, we’re filling in the gaps that all of these “switches” created.
I just wish we’d found CTCMath in our first year of homeschooling. The easy-to-use K-12 math curriculum sure would have made life easier for all of us!
One thing that I quickly discovered when searching for a math program is that long lessons are intimidating to kids. CTCMath offers quick video lessons that average about 6 minutes long, in our experience. They cover the concepts for that day’s lesson, without adding in a lot of unnecessary “fluff.”
Because the lessons can be fairly short, my kiddos like to double up on lessons. My older kids will do 2 or 3 lessons each day, then take off a week or so at a time, when life gets busy.
The short video lessons allow them to be more flexible with their time and the tend to work ahead of my schedule, just because they’re not overwhelmed.
An entire year of access:
A lot of programs only allow you to access to lessons for one school year (or 9 months!) But at some point in your homeschool journey, life is going to happen. We took off about 3 months last semester, after losing my father-in-law unexpectedly. I love that we don’t have to worry about rushing through our lessons before the end of the year.
Life happens and CTCMath gives you plenty of time to allow for it.
A quick look into the Parent Portal allows me to see exactly how my kiddos are doing each day. You can also opt to have weekly email updates, letting you know exactly how much your child has completed that week.
This is a great option for when you get busy and forget to check their progress. It will come straight to your inbox for you to review!
I also get to choose what percentage is “passing” and how many questions I want them to complete. (For instance, if it’s review, we only require the “short” tests.)
My oldest often goes back and works on the topics that previously stumped her, while still moving forward in her studies. Because of how CTCMath is set up, she can still work on her lessons, but come back to review the things she didn’t feel quite as comfortable with.
CTCMath is NOT Common Core aligned. I tend to believe that math is the same today as it was a hundred years ago, but that’s a debate for another day. 😉
One of my favorite features is that you don’t have to complete a lesson before moving on to the next. While each lesson builds on what you’ve already learned, this allows you to skip around, if you want to get a sneak peek at your lessons each week.
One day, my husband was talking about a math equation that he did at work that day. My daughter wasn’t familiar with it, so she went to her room and emerged a few minutes later, explaining how she would’ve solved it. After discussing it for a few minutes, we watched the lesson she had found together and my husband said “Hmmm, that sure would’ve been nice to know today!” She was so proud that SHE taught HIM something to make his work life easier!
No fluff or distractions:
A lot of online programs offer silly avatars or noisy notifications. While some kiddos love these features, others are simply distracted by them. CTCMath offers thorough interactive lessons, without the “fluff.”
One low price:
One of the most important things I consider when buying a curriculum is the price. In reality, I would love to be able to afford the most expensive “all-in-one” curriculum, but I can’t.
What I can do is find an affordable option that delivers high-quality math lessons.
And, since the entire family can use one CTCMath subscription, it just doesn’t get much better than that! In fact, I’m spending as much on CTCMath for ALL of my kids, as I did for ONE of my kiddo’s math curriculum with another company!
Plus, CTCMath loves homeschoolers so much, they offer a HALF PRICE discount to homeschool families PLUS 6 months for FREE!
That means you can get 18 months of CTC for your whole family for just $8.30 a month!!!
If you’re looking for an easy-to-use K-12 math curriculum, you can’t miss CTCMath. It’s affordable, easy to use and perfect for all ages!
