Looking for interest-led unit studies for your homeschool?
When we first started homeschooling, I was so excited! I had spent years researching, figuring out exactly what I needed to do.
There are so many rules, regulations and contradicting opinions, that I quickly became overwhelmed. I just wanted to make sure I was doing everything by the books and not have the government knocking on my door, threatening to take my kids away.
I spent so much time making sure I was doing what the state wanted, that I didn’t even think about what type of learners I would be teaching.
Even as I dove in to all of the most popular curriculum, searching high and low for just the right choice for our family, I didn’t think about some of the things that REALLY matter.
I read reviews, completed sample lessons, watched hundreds of videos and talked to every seasoned homeschooler I could find.
Then I carefully made our curriculum selections and got to work.

I received the products for free and was compensated for my time.
It wasn’t too bad at first.
Honestly, homeschooling was so much better than tossing my kids on the school bus everyday, so I didn’t feel like we were even struggling.
But soon enough, my kids grew tired of the boring textbooks and were sick of the same old mundane routine, day after day.
That’s when I discovered interest-led unit studies. And since then, our homeschool has been a more enjoyable place, for both me AND the kids!
Once I allowed the kids to have a say in their schooling, the tears ceased. They were excited for school each day and wanted to learn.
Giving them control in what we studied was a genius move, if I do say so myself. 😉
At first, I put together my own unit studies. I’d stay up late at night, working diligently to find the perfect craft, snack, book, educational activity and video to go along with our topic.
But once I discovered The Waldock Way, I knew I’d hit a gold mine!
Jessica Waldock, owner of The Waldock Way, is a homeschool mama herself. She knows all about how to throw together a high-quality unit study! Using her interest-led unit studies in our homeschool has saved me HOURS of time! And to be honest, her unit studies are WAY more in-depth than mine ever were.

Why Kids Love Interest-Led Learning
There’s no denying that kids LOVE the interest-led learning approach! The best part is, you can do what works for you and toss out what doesn’t!
Does you kid hate watching videos? No problem. Skip them and do a hands-on experiment instead. Your child’s education is in their hands!
When kids play a part in their schooling, it gives them confidence and helps them retain the information better. They feel responsible and like their feelings and thoughts really matter.
Just a few reasons to choose interest-led learning:
- Kids get less bored, so they are motivated to learn
- You can teach multiple ages at once
- You can teach in ways your learners enjoy, instead of dread
- Students dig deeper, spending more time learning about topics they’re interested in
