7 Simple Tips to Add Charm to Your Farmhouse Bedroom
Colors:
One of the biggest impacts on any room are the colors you use. Bold and bright colors can be trendy but light and airy colors tend to put people at ease. This is perfect for creating a relaxing atmosphere.
True to classic farmhouse style, I use neutral colors in not only my paint choices and linen curtains but also my bedding. Simple white bedding keeps the room feeling inviting and doesn’t overstimulate your eyes.
Accents can be kept neutral or add a pop of color. For my room, I opted to paint the walls a light seafoam green and pair it with solid white bedding. However, I added a pop of color by painting my dresser corral. It gives the room just enough “umph” without being overwhelming.
(I actually mixed a couple of gallons of white paint with some green that I had picked up at a yard sale to get my bedroom wall color, so I can’t share the exact color with you. Sorry!)
Layers:
One easy trick to creating a farmhouse bedroom is to add lots and lots of layers. Whether you layer pillows or simply add a throw to the foot of your bed, layers are the perfect accent. You can even add a fluffy rug to keep your feet warm and add some texture to the room.
Get Industrial:
Few things scream farmhouse charm like adding a touch of industry. Galvanized buckets and rusty hardware add character to your room. But don’t worry, you can have these accent pieces delivered straight to your door so there’s no need to dig through trash dumps!
Bring in Softness:
Off-set your stark industrial accents with a touch of softness. Add lace, ruffles and crisp clean linens to soften up the look of your farmhouse bedroom. I prefer to pair a romantic accessory next to my industrial pieces. They really boost the mood and help create a sanctuary.
Nature:
Bring the outside in with a potted plant, fresh flowers or a container full of succulents. If you are anything like me, you can’t keep a plant alive long enough to enjoy it. Instead of a gorgeous fern, opt for sticks. I picked these up in my back yard and I haven’t killed them yet! 😉 I love how they require no responsibility but, displayed in gorgeous bottles, still offer a touch of nature in my farmhouse bedroom.
It’s All In the Details:
While it’s important to have a solid foundation that reflects the feel you want for the room, you’ll need to add details to finish off the look. Something as simple as a handmade curtain tie-back can really make a difference in the feel of the room.
Personalize It:
While I truly love all the aspects of creating a farmhouse bedroom, I am still a young and sassy girl at heart. If you don’t include personal touches, like this fun letterboard, you won’t really connect with your decor. Make it welcoming by displaying personal treasures (like the clay cactus my daughter made for me) or family photos, like the one above my bed.
