Mr. D Math’s Blockchain Course for Teens
In 2009, when the first cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, burst onto the scene, I was busy raising babies. I had no idea whether this was a huge advance in technology or another craze that would simply be gone within a few months.
As technology (and my babies) grew, I realized cryptocurrency was here to stay. But I didn’t fully understand it. In fact, I didn’t understand it at all.
But I didn’t need to.
I had no plans on ever investing in cryptocurrency or even going down that rabbit hole. By the time I realized it was a “real thing,” I was so far behind, I thought I had missed the chance to really understand it.
But as my babies have slowly flown the coop and I’ve had more time (and money) to explore new hobbies, my interest has grown.
So when I saw that Mr. D Math offered a new course, called Blockchain, I decided to jump in and check it out.

Blockchain for Homeschool Students and Curious Adults
Mr. D’s latest course, Blockchain Beginner- The Genesis Block is just that: a beginner-friendly course designed to help you understand cryptocurrency and everything that goes with it! From digital money, blockchain technology and online security, it’ll help you feel more confident in the ever-evolving digital economy.
After students gain a basic understanding of Bitcoin, digital wallets and the modern financial systems, they move on to more in-depth topics. They will understand the foundational concepts of how blockchains work and why they work. They will grow to understand how blockchain connects to society and learn real-world applications.
Even if you don’t plan to invest in cryptocurrency, it’s bound to come up in conversations at some point and it’s a great way to truly understand the topic for yourself, instead of relying on hype.
Why This Blockchain Course for Teens Works So Well
Simple, Do-able Tips
Sure, big lectures can drive a point home. But I love the little, do-able tips that don’t overwhelm me. Things like “use a completely different email address for your cryptocurrency account” and “never lose your password because it cannot be recovered” may seem like such a small thing but they can make a huge difference. All of the little tidbits of helpful information left me feeling so much more confident. From learning how to keep hackers away to learning about careers in the field, I loved hearing the bite-size tips on how and how easy it is to apply them to my own life.
If your teen is curious about cryptocurrency, technology, or modern finance, this beginner blockchain course is a fantastic place to start.
Knowledge Checks
One of my favorite things about the course is the “Knowledge Checks.” It’s not a full-on quiz but more of a quick and easy way to ensure you’re learning. These are great ways to make sure you know the key points without an overwhelming test. Just a few quick questions to gauge where you’re at.

From a Trusted Source
Let’s be honest: we’ve been loving Mr. D Math courses for almost 10 years! So when I find myself looking for a new subject to introduce in our homeschool, I always turn to my favorite and most trusted companies. Mr. D is at the top of that list!
Dennis DiNoia has been teaching math classes since I was just 2 years old! (That’s over 40 years!) He is one of the best math teachers in the world and his hands-on and engaging courses are available online, which makes them accessible to everyone.
But Mr. D no longer is ONLY a math teacher. He and his team offer several different courses, including:
- ACT/SAT Prep
- Life Skills
- Grammar
- American Sign Language
- Personal Finance
- Technology
- Music and Dance
- Economics
- Robotics
- and more!
Another thing we love is the Mr. D Homework Helper! It won’t give you the answer but it will help you figure it out. This is THE perfect tool for families like our own that encourage students not just to learn but to know HOW to learn. The Homework Helper is fully synced with Mr. D’s courses and helps break down the problems, asks the right questions and guides the student to find the answer on their own.
It’s literally like having a tutor at your house 24/7!

It’s Not Just for Finance Nerds
One thing I was surprised to learn is that this course isn’t just for those people who totally geek out over budgets and finances.
It really is a great course for everyone!
- Clueless beginners (like myself!)
- Students
- People who have changed careers and are exploring new ideas
- Curious learners, who just want to know more about the topics
- Techy families, who are open to new ideas and advanced technology
What I appreciated most is that this course doesn’t assume students already understand finance or technology. It truly is an introduction to blockchain for beginners. The lessons build step-by-step, making complicated ideas feel approachable for homeschool students, teens, adults, and even career switchers exploring new opportunities.

Civic Engagement
Since cryptocurrency was such a new idea to me, I loved the Civic Engagement section of this course. It was so cool to see how other people view the ideas of digital currency. It was almost like an old episodes of “Cribs.” I gained new ideas and was super impressed with the thoughts others had about the topics. While I know the lesson assignments would be super helpful to teenagers, I personally loved having an inside view of what others think. Hearing the statistics they shared was one of my favorite parts!
