Reverse Planning:

The fact is, you can’t stay on task when you have a whole list of things to accomplish and only a fraction of the time needed to do so. Instead of rushing through your homeschool day, do what you can.

Trust me, it’s enough.

So, how do you “reverse plan” your homeschool? It’s easy!

Instead of writing down what you need to do that day, write down what you managed to do!

During busy seasons of life, you simply don’t have the capacity to complete everything and seeing the list of experiments and art projects you didn’t complete will leave you feeling like a failure.

Instead, just do the next thing.

Finished chapter 4 yesterday? Today, begin chapter 5 and go as far as you feel like going.

Only read 6 pages in your read-aloud? That’s fine! Just pick the book up and start where you left off.

When you’re done for the day, write down everything you did that is counted as “school.”

Depending on your own state laws, you can add more or less details as needed.

While you may not have busted out your science books, you can still count your nature walk, where you talked about different types of grasses and the bugs that live in each area.

The secret is to be gentle with yourself during this season of life.

Lowering your standards and knowing that life won’t always be like this will help you not feel like a failure. Just remember, you’re doing your best with what you’ve been given.

Outsource:

One of my favorite things to tell new homeschool moms is to start outsourcing as soon as you start struggling.

The fact is, you can’t do it all.

As homeschool moms, we have more than enough on our plates at any given time: Dishes. Soccer practices. Healthy dinners. Laundry. Visiting family members. Volunteering at church. Taking the dog for a walk. Grocery shopping. Cleaning toilets. Filling up the car with gas. Paying bills.

The list could go on and on and on…

Instead of trying to juggle everything, choose one or two things that you aren’t very good at and outsource them to a trusted company or individual.
