Add one chopped onion and two cloves of minced garlic and cook until the onion is softened, about 5 minutes. Next, add one tablespoon of chili powder, one teaspoon of cumin and one teaspoon of smoked paprika and stir to coat the vegetables. Add two cans of drained and rinsed black beans and four cups of vegetable broth.
